Dirty Dirty Soap
2023, (15 x 34 x 34 cm): dirt of the glass workshop soap, towel
This is a sink entirely made from soap that was made to smell like dirt and smoke of the glass “hotshop” (workshop). The soap was made using material from the workshop: water from the buckets that cool down the wooden molds and newspapers used for shaping; and smoked oil from burning the wooden floor. The sink is a place of cleansing but here the act of cleaning becomes an act of dirtying oneself and thereby subverting this relation. As you wash more you smell dirtier. How does smell mediate what means to be clean?
