We always had blinds in the house growing up. These blinds come to represent a very specific aesthetic within the Dutch liminal domestic landscape. The use of blinds reinvents the cultural tradition of leaving your curtains open for a certain social control. In Dutch, blinds are called “luxaflex”, after the company that has a monopoly over the product. The luxaflex is a sterile object that dissects the outer world. Here, all the strips are individually flocked, softening these blinds. It becomes the dirt that builds up and doesn’t get cleaned. A dirt that softens the reality of domestic social control.
