It smelled like grass when the bombs dropped

Dissolving tabs are placed on the street underneath air conditioning units. When the airco leaks water, it drips on these tabs and they release the smell of earthy grass. The tabs are placed in a sink drain. There is not much grass or rain to be found in Almada. In this work, the rain comes in the form of a domestic byproduct. The exhausted airco, used to sustain domestic life, provides the rain. The grass smell is artificially provoked through these “cakes”, often found in urinals. There is a subversion of the outside and inside, the artificial and the natural. The title refers to an anecdote from the bombing of Rotterdam in 1940. When the bombs dropped people reported smelling earthy grass, even if it was only for an instant.
