What my Grandmother told me cannot be smelled
2024, blown glass, gasoline, concrete video, audio made with theremin. Glass: 80 x 30 x 30 cm)
In this video and glass sculpture, my childhood home-videos are fed as an image prompt to be reconstructed by A.I (DALLE-2). In an infinite loop, the image generator feeds its own reproduction back into itself. At the same time my grandmother is telling a memory about what happened to her during WWII. The video is juxtaposed with a glass pillar with black petroleum in its base. The gasoline scent carries ephemeral yet real memories which is contrasted by video, that only tells a story of a memory. How do narratives become memories that feel intrinsic to us?
